On Saturday, January 18th, Toronto Arya Samaj hosted our first Volunteers and Elders Appreciation Dinner, a heartfelt event celebrating the many contributions of our volunteers and elders. As guests arrived, MP Paul Chiang warmly greeted them and had many conversations with attendees before being invited to the podium, where he graciously welcomed attendees with very supportive remarks. The talented Mahadeo Sisters entertained us with several talented harmonies, and the Chinese delegation from the Second Step Community Services delighted with drumming and dance performances. Aria Sharma, a theatre artist, was a standout for the evening and entertained us with her experiences as an Indo-Caribbean woman in Canada. As the weather slowly turned treacherous outside, our guests enjoyed a delicious catered meal including naan and Gulab Jamuns.
We are grateful to our elders who continue to demonstrate their love for their dharma and culture and to our volunteers who help to create a vibrant atmosphere of Seva (selfless service) ensuring that the Vedic Cultural Centre thrives and Toronto Arya Samaj continues to meet the needs of our people. Together, their dedication is invaluable, and we remain grateful for their steadfast support. Despite the warnings to stay off the roads on account of the ice and snow, the evening was beautifully done and reflected the interests and sophistication of our community. For those who could not attend, we thank the organizers for this event and our elders and volunteers for making all that we do, even better.
